Headlines Nagravision, Wave Systems and Wavexpress Address Secure IP Content Distribution for Cable Operators Leaders in Conditional Access and Content Distribution Combine to Market Secure IP Cable Solution New York, NY and Cheseaux, Switzerland, Oct. 29, 2001: Nagravision (SWX: KUD), Wave Systems (NASDAQ: WAVX) and Wavexpress today announced plans to secure the delivery and caching of premium pay-per-use content to the PC. Operating on the PC platform, the solution will enable new revenue and bundling opportunities for cable MSOs, as well as content providers who prefer hardware-based security mechanisms. The companies intend to integrate Nagravision's smart card-based solution with EMBASSY® to provide the central security element in Wavexpress' IP Multicast service to the cable modem. The smart card will be authenticated by Wave Systems' EMBASSY, a programmable security processor. Wave Systems has developed a tightly integrated set of security mechanisms including a trust assurance network that guarantees the secure loading of Nagravision's conditional access to EMBASSY. Elements of Nagravision's well-known Conditional Access System will handle distribution and management of encryption keys and users entitlements as well as other security related features. Wavexpress' TVTonic™ application software utilizes unused bandwidth available over the DOCSIS channel to deliver secure content to the hard drive. The security platform will be available as a low cost USB peripheral, or as an addition to the motherboard or graphics card. The combined solution provides MSOs with a secure usage and consumption model for IP multicast and streaming. "The broadband market is enjoying tremendous growth. There is unused off-peak bandwidth going into the home and desktop storage capacity is continuing to double every year," said Steven K. Sprague, president and CEO of Wave Systems and Wavexpress. "We have combined to deliver a solution that provides the MSOs with the maximum flexibility for offering content over IP to the customer and the security for attracting premium content providers." "Nagravision is adding one more block to the Kudelski Group's strategy of securing convergence," said John Markey, Chief Marketing Officer for Nagravision. "The integration of some Conditional Access elements with EMBASSY will open doors for us in the very promising PC market. We look forward to the opportunity to work closely with Wave Systems and Wavexpress as they approach deployment."
